KGIRS organizes maiden tax quiz competition, promises to build brighter future for Youth

 

The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday has organized it maiden tax quiz competition with a charge on Students to remain dedicated with their studies towards achieving their goals in life.

In his speech, the Executive Chairman of KGIRS Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe disclosed that the Catch Them Young” tax quiz competition is aimed at fostering a culture of tax awareness and compliance among youth in the State.

Represented by the Director Administration and ICT of the agency Alexious Akande, the KGIRS boss said ” The Catch Them Young” tax quiz competition initiative, organized by the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, aims to educate and inspire the next generation of taxpayers. As the Executive Chairman of KGIRS, I am delighted to see the enthusiasm and knowledge displayed by our young participants. Your understanding of tax concepts and their applications is truly impressive

” We believe that by educating students about taxation, we can empower them to become responsible citizens and future leaders.

“I would like to congratulate the winners and participants of this competition. Your dedication to learning and growth is inspiring, and I encourage you to continue exploring the world of taxation.

He thanked the Ministry of education for their partnership and support, stressing that, the agency remains committed to build a brighter future for the youth and ensure a sustainable tax system for Kogi State.

“Let us continue to ‘Catch Them Young’ and nurture a generation of informed and engaged taxpayers” he added.

On his part, the Kogi State Commissioner of Education Hon. Wemi Jones who was represented by Obakachi Felicia Ohunene noted that developed Countries across the globe had a good taxing system which is the foundation of their development and beautiful Cities.

Continuing, the Commissioner said
“Kogi State is working in that line as part of the Governor’s reform agenda. The plan is to make the State one of the top 5 States for business from across the West African Countries.

” The present quick payment of salaries, free education, and other developmental strides being witnessed are testimony that the State is working and are effectively making use of the resources of the State particularly the ones collected through the present tax system”.

The past Chairperson, Chartered Institute of Taxation, (CITN) Kogi State and Benue Dr Owotunse Esther Yetunde asserted that payment of tax brings about economic development of the State.

She asserted that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that payment of tax is encouraged in the State adding that it is not imposed as it is the Civil responsibility of Citizens in the Country.

Also speaking, the Federal Tax controller in Kogi State Dr Dunson Yakson Sanda highlighted the concept of Tax and its importance in the development and growth of any Country.

Dr Sanda noted that the payment of tax will help strengthens government policies and programmes in the state.

Harmony International Secondary School Lokoja emerged winner of the maiden edition of Catch Them Young” tax quiz competition organized by Kogi State Internal Revenue Service while Muslim Community Secondary School, Government Science Secondary School, and Crowder Memorial College came second, third and fourth respectively.

The winner went home with N50,000, Second, (N30,000), third (N20,000) and fourth (N10,000).
