Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Steve Karimi, on Thursday praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reeled out his interventions in education, water, roads and empowerment as he engaged stakeholders from Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Local Government Areas in a town hall meeting.
The meeting, held in Kabba, is part of Senator Karimi’s ongoing consultations across the seven LGAs of Kogi West aimed at promoting unity within the APC and consolidating support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Karimi said his focus remains service, not politics of division.
“I am out to speak for you people as your servant representative, defend and work for our people. All my actions are geared towards unity,” he said.
“I am not out to fight for my people and their welfare. I am out to defend the people of my constituency. I am not fighting any leader of APC. I’m for the APC and it unity on how to deliver Kogi West”
The Senator urged Kogi West to reciprocate President Tinubu’s commitment to the state with massive votes in 2027.
“President Tinubu is too much for us in Kogi and Kogi West. The reward for the good work of Tinubu is to vote massively for him in 2027 from Kogi West and the State as a whole,” he declared.
Highlighting his scorecard, Senator Karimi said his office has prioritized projects with direct impact on communities in Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu:
He said he awarded scholarships to 1,000 students in 2024 and 3,000 in 2025. He also facilitated the building of several schools across Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, and made donations including N10m each to Anglican Church Nursery School, Iyara Day, Ayetoro Day, and Ekinrin Adde Day, plus N20m of a pledged N50m for Kabba Day.
On Water, he said he Provided solar-powered boreholes in 30 locations across the constituency to ease access to clean water.
In the area of Infrastructure, he said he Attracted about N2 billion for the repair of roads in the constituency before the Minister added N6 billion. He also personally funded the Pakuta bridge. Work on the Kabba-Ilorin road was also cited as part of efforts to improve transportation.
On Power and Empowerment, Provided transformers to communities and empowered 50 cooperative societies within the federal constituency.
The town hall drew a large turnout of APC leaders, former lawmakers, traditional representatives, women and youth leaders, as well as party members from the two LGAs.
Among those present were APC leader in Kabba/Bunu, Elder Ben Olowo Dollar, former council chairman, Moses Oluruleke, former lawmakers. Samuel Meseko and Alhaji Ganiyu Erukutu; representative of the Obaro of Kabba, Chief Adegbega; Retired Colonel Dayo Abayomi; Hon. Yori Afolabi; Obayemi Comfort; women leader Fehinti Dada; and other party stakeholders.
Speaking at the gathering, Elder Olowo Dollar said the meeting was convened to create a direct channel for constituents to interact with the senator and deliberate on issues affecting their communities.
In his goodwill message, Chief Adegbega, who represented the Obaro of Kabba, offered prayers for Senator Karimi and other APC candidates, including President Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Retired Colonel Dayo Abayomi commended the senator’s performance and said he deserved a second term in office. He urged APC members to remain united and mobilize massively for all APC candidates.
A representative of Ijumu LGA disclosed that the people of Ijumu had resolved to support Senator Karimi for another term, citing his track record of representation.
Former Kabba/Bunu council chairman, Moses Oluruleke, also reaffirmed his support and called on the electorate to back the senator’s re-election bid.
Women leader Fehinti Dada expressed appreciation for the senator’s interventions, recalling how he supported her family during the passing of her father even though she did not vote for him during his election to the House of Representatives.
The APC youth leader described those present as “grassrooters” and expressed confidence that they would deliver both Senator Karimi and President Tinubu in the forthcoming elections.
Former lawmaker, Elder Samuel Meseko, congratulated Karimi on his victory at the party primary and said the support of Elder Olowo Dollar and other APC leaders would further strengthen his chances at the polls.
Senator Karimi said elections are won and lost at the grassroots, which is why he has prioritized regular engagement with constituents. He assured that he would continue to prioritize projects and programs that improve the welfare and economic wellbeing of the people of Kogi West.
