Kabba Bunu LGA Chairman Demands IG Kayode Egbetokun Equip Police with Helmets, Bulletproof Jackets Amid Deadly Highway Attacks.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been urged to allocate resources for the procurement of protective gear—helmets and bulletproof jackets—for Nigeria’s police officers.

Barr. Zacchaeus Dare Michael, Chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State, raised the alarm in a press statement, lamenting the “great disservice” of deploying officers to the nation’s highways without proper equipment.

He described the situation as unfortunate, noting that persistent attacks on police across the country have resulted in many deaths, largely because officers lack essential protective kits.

“The police must be protected while discharging their duties before they can protect citizens,” Michael said, comparing the police to the military, which never deploys troops without full gear.

He added, “It is on record that every year the Police budget includes provisions for protective kits. I urge the Senate and House Committees on Police to investigate why officers are still sent onto highways without helmets and jackets.”

The Chairman’s call underscores growing pressure on the IG and lawmakers to act swiftly, said placing values on the lives of Policemen, means placing values on the lives of the citizens.
