JOY IN GIRNYA AS NEWBORN IS NAMED AFTER KOGI COMMISSIONER, ENGR. BASHIR GEGU

It was a day of joy and appreciation in Girnya Community as the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Muhammed Bashir Gegu, received a grand welcome at a naming ceremony where a newborn was named in his honor.

The baby, named Muhammed Bashir, is the son of Tele, Chief Executive Officer of a prominent restaurant in Girnya. According to Tele, the decision was driven by deep appreciation for the Commissioner’s outstanding leadership, commitment to service, and the positive impact he has made in Kogi LGA and across the state.

Speaking at the event, Tele described Engr. Bashir Gegu as a humble and accessible leader with genuine love for the people. He said naming his son after the Commissioner was a way of immortalizing the good works of a public servant who remains close to the grassroots.

In his response, Engr. Bashir Gegu expressed gratitude to the family and the entire Girnya Community for the rare honor. He described the gesture as humbling and a reminder of the responsibility of public office.

“As your servant, my goal remains to serve our people with integrity, ensure sustainable development, and bring government closer to the people. This honor will spur me to do more for our communities, our LGA, and Kogi State at large,” he said.

The Commissioner prayed for God’s guidance and blessings upon the newborn, his parents, and the entire Girnya Community. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the *Ododo-led administration* to inclusive governance and people-oriented policies.

The ceremony was attended by community leaders, political stakeholders, family members, and well-wishers who came out in large numbers to celebrate the occasion and honor the Commissioner.
