Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones on Saturday solicited the support of Tertiary students on the School Adoption and Mentorship Programme.
The Programme is a brain child of the new Direction Administration of Governor Yahaya Bello aimed at providing adoption and mentorship for learners among others.
The Commissioner while speaking during annual Celebration of Bunu Day organised by the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja Chapter of Bunu Students Union, said Tertiary school students can embrace the Programme by giving back knowledge learnt to the younger ones.
Hon. Jones told the students that the Programme will soon commence across the State, saying the development of the Education sector is a collective responsibility.
He reiterated government commitment to the revamping of Education in Kogi State, hence the 30% budgetary allocation to the sector in the next fiscal year.
The Commissioner advised the students to study hard as Governor Yahaya Bello is ready to reward outstanding students in the State owned tertiary institutions.
“may I encourage you that the only reason why you are here is for you to excel academically…the task of developing Bunu land is in our hands. I therefore urge all of you to do everything possible to lift Bunu up.”
