Injustice, Extortion: Dangote trailer drivers demand removal of transport managers


 

Trailer drivers at the Obajana Cement company in Kogi, has called for the immediate removal of Mr. Juan Carlos Rincos, who is the National Director Transport, Dangote cement Transport Obajana, and his deputy Mr. Babangida Mohammed for alleged injustice.

The drivers who barricaded the only road between Lokoja and the west Senatorial district of Kogi state on Tuesday, also accused them of high turnover of staff including drivers, saying that in the last four years over 6000 employees have lost their jobs in the transport section of Dangote.

Speaking with Guardian on the sidelines of the protest, a driver who simply identified himself as Mukailu, said their names s tyranny over staff in handling of their affairs where a driver is debited for all forms of repairs, damaged bags of cement and all deduction from their pay.

He said there are drivers that are indebted to the company in millions of Naira, saying that the situation has made them to be unable to take care of their families.

In his words “The drivers are treated as shit in Obajana this account for why they seek refuge outside Obajana empty trucks and effect repairs with their money to keep their jobs. Mr. Babangida is the sole actor.

They also alleged that drivers are arrested for no reason and humiliate them because they are drivers, noting that the drivers want Babangida and Juan Carlos Rincos out of the business as they are ready to work but in a conducive working environment.

He added that the workers want change and hope the management will look into their plea.

The also accused the due of extortion, unfair treatment and unwarranted deductions from their salaries and allowances.

Recalled that trailer drivers with the Dangote cement company in Kogi state on Monday, protested and blocked the road burning tires and disallowed commuters passage through from lokoja to Kabba, over unfair treatment by management.
