One of the prominent clauses in the United Nation’s articles of fundamental human rights is the right to freedom of faith and religion.
Without much ado,the right to choice of faith is an inalienable one.Closely related to this is the right to non- discrimination against persons, either because of faith, race, gender, etc.
For reasons of space, let us consider in an abridged form, the hallmarks of religious tolerance.
1.Do not discriminate against your fellowman based on his faith.If the landlord does not alienate any of his tenants, how come a co-tenant will do. God is the Universal Landlord of heaven and earth.
2. If you wish your neighbour to embrace your faith, you should only do so in a winsome, persuasive, and friendly way, without any form of coercion, and let your neighbour freely choose on his own express volition to make choice. Even, so, between parents and children!
3. Let us be careful how we testify of interfaith conversions. Unwise steps in this regards can bridle interfaith jealousies and acrimony.
4. If you lead men in secular parlance, realize you lead over people of diverse faiths, not leader over people of your faith alone. Let us be guided properly.
5. Don’t heat up the religious polity,because of your overzealousness, because, if the other faith do so and there is widespread brouhaha, how then do each of the faithfuls practice their faith peacefully. A fowl on a tightrope, does not rest,neither the tightrope itself!
6.Always remember religion or faith is a personal matter between you and your God, your creator, and let it be exclusively reserved so.
7.I for one, does not believe, that by force or decree, or fiat, or any other thing like that,by man, could make a people to be adherents, by force, of a particular faith or belief. If it happened in histories( in some religions, including Christianity and Islam) it, does not mean,it could, again. Many things of old can not repeat itself !Why?
