Hon. Wemi Jones (FCIB), is the Kogi State Commissioner For Education, served under former Governor Yahaya Bello, is presently with Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo, has proven to be a catalyst for lasting change and the Architect of Kogi’s Transforming Education Revolution as designed his Principals.
In the last six years Hon Wemi, has helped in repositioning the education sector in such a way that students are now enjoying infrastructure, free tuition and payments of examination fees.
A man who has not shirk in his community development activities, Wemi Jones is a man desirious of entrenching an educational system that would truly be lasting, with the teaching staff now enjoying an enabling environment that is unusual, a break from the past.
A Former banker/event manager turned politician; known for his open‑door policy and community‑centric leadership, Wemi Jones in the Kogi education sector has no doubt represent a blessing and a work in progress.
His key accomplishments in the last 6 Years can be highlighted in the establishment of two state‑owned universities, Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) and Kogi State University (KSU) Kabba – with full accreditation and swift policy execution.
Similarly, under his leadership is the construction of Model Schools Construction of GYB Model Science Schools across the three senatorial zones to boost STEM access.
As Education Commissioner, his tenure has witnessed massive Infrastructure upgrade of classrooms, labs, and facilities in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions; improved learning environments.
It is on record that the Implementation of free tuition and payment of examination fees for students in public schools has made Hon. Jones a household name, a positive sing song, reference for improved education system in the state.
