Hon. Mark OKPANACHI Ogah Mourns an Icon of Global Repute
Professor Nuhu George Obaje, born in Ajaka, was a distinguished academic and a pioneering figure in Nigeria’s geological studies.
Professor Obaje was the first holder of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Professorial Chair in Basinal Studies at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) in Lapai, Niger State, and was widely recognized as a valuable asset to both his community and the nation.
Reflecting on the tragic news, I, Hon Mark OKPANACHI Ogah expressed the depth of my shock and grief, noting the irreplaceable void left by Professor Obaje’s departure.
Professor Nuhu G. Obaje, a globally applauded Professor of Geology, was celebrated for his exceptional contributions to academia and his visionary impact on lives and communities.
His innovative ideas, expertise, and contributions in geology and petroleum studies which have positioned him as an influential figure in advancing Nigeria’s understanding of Basinal studies and resource management have left an enduring impact.
I acknowledged Professor Obaje as a steadfast pillar within his community whose efforts have been instrumental in its development.
This loss is particularly distressing in this crucial period when his guidance and wisdom were most needed to build a shared vision for the community.
Despite my grief, I find comfort in the belief of a future reunion, praying to God to fill the vacuum he has left.
Igalamela/Odolu Local Government, Kogi State, and even the broader global community will deeply feel Professor Obaje’s absence.
His legacy, however, will continue to inspire and resonate with all who knew him.
