Hon Abang Appeals for Restraint Among Protesting Youths Along the Ikom–Obudu Expressway

Hon. Victor Abang, PhD, Member representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, wishes to address the ongoing protests by some constituents along the Ikom–Obudu Expressway over the deplorable condition of sections of the federal road corridor.

He called on the protesting youths and residents to maintain calm, remain law-abiding, and temporarily withdraw from the roadway in the interest of public safety and uninterrupted movement, noting that deliberate legislative and executive efforts are already underway to facilitate the rehabilitation of the affected federal infrastructure.

The lawmaker explained that the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, has taken significant steps to engage with the Federal Government-under whose statutory jurisdiction the road falls-to ensure the commencement of immediate remedial works and comprehensive reconstruction of the dilapidated sections.

While acknowledging the legitimate frustrations of constituents who have endured prolonged hardship, economic losses, and safety risks due to the deteriorating condition of the expressway, Hon. Abang reassured the public that the concerns of the Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency have been formally escalated through appropriate legislative channels. He emphasized that the necessary government procurement and administrative processes are being finalized to enable prompt intervention.

Hon. Abang reiterated his unwavering commitment to effective representation, responsive constituency advocacy, and sustained engagement with relevant federal and state authorities to ensure that critical infrastructure deficits affecting the constituency receive the urgent attention they deserve. He urged constituents to continue to express their concerns peacefully while allowing institutional processes to yield tangible outcomes.

The MP appreciates the patience, resilience, and civic responsibility of the good people of Boki/Ikom and remains steadfast in its pursuit of durable solutions to the road infrastructure challenges within the Constituency.

Signed:
