A coalition of civil society groups have condemned in strong term the
calumny and defamation of Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, who is the Vice
Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State. A noble and
indefatigable man who has positively changed the face of the University.
He has toiled tirelessly to see that Federal University Lokoja progresses,
and this has been manifesting already just within a year of assumption of
office; evident in the NUC ranking which positioned the school best among
its contemporary that was established about the same time.
This erudite scholar and innovator has expanded the university operations
by the creation of more directorates, construction of internal road of the
university, building of a befitting Police Out-Post, recruitment of
Vigilante/Hunters group to complement security architecture to both
students and staff. Also, his administration has seen to the installation of
Solar Powered street light across the university community, to words-off
intruders. The school has enjoyed harmonious relationship among the host
community, conducted steady Inaugural lectures and sustained industrial
harmony. Another significant stride is the take off of the College of Health
Sciences (FULCOHS), as well as the establishment of the Faculty of
Engineering and accreditation of all courses offered at the university
amongst others.
We also use this medium to congratulate and felicitate with him on his one
year anniversary as Vice-Chancellor Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State,
Nigeria. As it is crystal clear even to the blind and to all sundry, how he has
advanced the University in all phases because of his results oriented
administration drive. It is our earnest prayers to God for a more
sustainable developmental strides under his tenure as the Vice Chancellor.
The group is not against anyone, organization or groups from demanding
any legitimate redress, whereit must have been proven using our extant
laws in the country that there is incontrovertible fact, which is obviously
farfetched here. But this is just a ploy with targeted intent to distract the workaholic, astute and proactively performing Vice-Chancellor. Who has
put the university on the global map and brought orderliness, growth,
tidiness, excellence, stability, peace and purposeful leadership to Federal
University Lokoja, Kogi State, a citadel of learning devoid of religious and
tribal sentiments. Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi has given a sense of belonging
to staff and students of FUL.
The Coalition on this note, say “enough is enough’’ Stop the denigration,
character assassination, smear campaign, calumny and rather fasten
together with the stirring train of progress.
We hereby warn the faceless group to desist from this devilish false drunk
and sexual accusations of the highly cerebral, distinguished professor of
history, a renowned scholar of international status, a responsible and
righteous family man, or else we be left with no other choice than to
mobilize our teaming supporters across the country for a one million man
march in solidarity support of the Vice-Chancellor.
