Governor Otu delivers on promise, illuminates Itega Okpudu after decades of darkness
The Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has brought electricity to Itega Okpudu in Yala Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, ending decades of power outages and marking a significant development milestone for the community.
According to a report published by Thevoiceofthecentral, the restoration of power supply to the Itega Okpudu under the dynamic and pragmatic leadership of Apostle Otu, was in fulfilment of the pledge he made to the people of the community to ensure the improvement of their quality of life via access to steady electricity.
The report indicated that “On September 1, 2025, Governor Otu delegated the Director-General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency, Hon. Francis Ekpo, to the community with a clear directive to ensure the provision of electricity. That directive has now been fully carried out, as residents currently enjoy a regular power supply.
“The arrival of electricity is expected to boost economic activities, improve security, enhance small businesses, and support social services within the community, which had long relied on alternative and often expensive sources of energy.”
Mr. Oko Inyaka, a resident of Itega Okpudu, while speaking on behalf of other inhabitants, was said to have described the development as historic, noting that “many in the community had lost hope of ever being connected to the national grid.”
He was quoted as saying that “We are grateful to Governor Prince Bassey Otu for remembering Itega Okpudu. This is a dream come true for us. I never imagined I would see electricity in this community in my lifetime.”
The electrification of Itega Okpudu, the report further noted, aligns with “the Otu administration’s broader agenda of inclusive development and improved infrastructure across rural communities in Cross River State.”
Governor Otu, a transformational leader and compassionate politician, determined to ensure an all-round development of Cross River State and make life better for all Cross Riverians, has an impressive record of achievements in rural electrification.
A clear testament to the determination of the governor to make life bearable for rural households, is his launching of an ambitious electrification project to power 10,000 homes, using the Solar Home Systems and designed to benefit rural, off-grid areas across Cross River State.
