Governor Nwifuru’s Wife offsets medical bills of indigent patients In Ebonyi

The wife of Ebonyi State Governor Chief Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has offseted the medical bills of indigent patients at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, following their inability to pay outstanding bills after discharge.
The Governor’s wife made the payment during a discharge visit at the hospital, led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof Robinson Onoh alongside management team.
Our correspondent reports that the discharge exercise focused on patients awaiting bill settlement since 2024 till date, involving review of their condition as well as medications.
Mrs Nwifuru who is the founder of Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO) said the gesture aligned with calls for financial assistance to the patients.
According to her “We are settling your bills, so you can go home,”
“Today’s engagement is grounded in our belief that no one should be denied medical care due to lack of funds,” Nwifuru said
She pledged her continued support for indigent patients in the state and called for collective efforts to ensure that all residents, regardless of their background, have access to quality healthcare.
She however expressed appreciation to the management team of AEFUTHA, Onoh the CMD, and the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Uchenna Nwedu, for their unflinching support to BERWO foundation in the State.
In an interview, some of the discharged patients Mr Emmanuel and Tochukwu Obasi who were visited at the men surgical ward, appreciated the Governor’s wife for the intervention and prayed God to reward her accordingly.
