Gov. Nwifuru flags off distribution of cash, relief materials to windstorm disaster victims in Ebonyi

The Governor of Ebonyi State Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has flagged off the distribution of cash and relieved materials to over ninety eight families of Amegu unuphu and Ndieze Inyimegu Unuphu villages that were affected by windstorm and flood disasters on 26th and 27th May, 2025 in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the State.

 

The victims received five hundred thousand naira cash each with 10kg bags of rice.

The Governor represented by the Commissioner for human capital development and monitoring Mrs Ann Aligwe urged the victims to utilize the fund given to them judiciously in order to cushion the effect of the disasters.

 

The Governor revealed that the State Government through the ministry of human capital development and monitoring in collaboration with SEMA and NEMA visited the affected areas immediately the incident happened and as such carried out several assessment.

He stated thus “When we come for assessment we promised you people that Ebonyi State Government will come to your rescue very soon, so many of you thought that it was a jamboree but today you have seen that His Excellency is talk and do Governor”.

“His Excellency the Governor of Ebonyi State has directed to touch the life of the victims of windstorm disaster on 26th and 27th May, 2025. His Excellency approved relieved materials and cash to be given to this families who were affected in one or the other. There are some many other things on the way that his Excellency has also directed to be given to affected victims”.

“Today we want to tell you that Ebonyi State Government is very passionate and welferistic in nature”

“All this while we have been preparing to make sure that once we touch your life, your life will change and today by the grace of God your family will be transformed from sadness to goodness, there are some many other things on the way that His Excellency has also directed to be given to the affected families”

The Governor further advised Ebonyi people living in the waterways to relocate to the safer ground to avert flood disasters.

Some of the victims who spoke to newsmen including Amegu Unuphu village chairman Chief Felix Nworogbo, Mr James Ominyi and widow with seven children Mrs Mary Oketa commended the Governor of the State Chief Francis Nwifuru for his timely intervention, describing it as the first of its kind in the State.

They assured the Governor of their total support and solidarity to his administration.

“This intervention has brought a total relief on us” they said.

Meanwhile, a minute silent was observed in honor of Mrs Theresa Nwaji who lost her life to the windstorm disaster and eight person who died of flood disaster at Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State.
