Gov. Bello declares State of Emergency on Education – Hon. Wemi Jones.


 

The Kogi State Commissioner For Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones says towards making the State regain her lost glory in Education, like it was in the days of the Northern Region and Kabba Province, disclosed that the Gov. Yahaya Bello has declared a State emergency on the sector.

Speaking from Govt. Day Secondary School, Iruvucheba, Okene, Hon. Jones, FCIB who is currently attending Educational Task Force Meeting with some critical Educational Stakeholders in Kogi Central Senatorial District said the declaration of emergency on the education system by Gov Yahaya Bello, has brought in new innovations and remodelling of secondary schools in the state.

Hon. Jones said with the state now having two University’s, the need to adequately prepare students in secondary schools to fit into the vision of Gov. Bello for quality assurance and to become self reliant.

Hon. Jones described education as the only guarantee for the future, mentioned several ongoing renovation and rehabilitation projects in the Central Senatorial District, disclosed that the emergency declaration has helped reposition the education system in the state.

The Commissioner disclosed that the state must move in the direction of science, technology, English and mathematics, says the State cannot be left behind in the new wave, reason why the declaration of a State of Emergency.

He described the commitment of Gov. Yahaya Bello to education as unprecedented, says the state government is aware of the shortfall of Teachers in secondary schools, expressed optimism that soon efforts is being to fill the vacancies occasion by retirement, transfer and the civil service reforms.

While pointing out that the state government cannot do it alone, solicited the support of stakeholders to the success of the adoption and mentorship program, cautioned against indiscipline by the teachers and students.
