FUL: Within one year in office, I have fulfilled the mission of the University – Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi


 

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi says he has within his one year in office fulfilled the mission of the University by making it move from number eight to number one in ranking amongst the twelve University’s established by Former President Good luck Jonathan.

Prof. Akinwunmi made the disclosure in a chat with Newsmen to mark his one year in office, said his new vision for the University is to make it one of the best in the world.

The Vice Chancellor added further that he has under his Leadership move the University to the second best University in North Central Nigeria coming behind, University of Ilorin, said his new mission is to build a top class University that would be the envy of all.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor added that amongst all the Federal University’s in the Country, the Federal University Lokoja now ranks as number six amongst Federal University’s, described it as a product of hardwork and remaining focus.

While still reeling out his achievements, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that Federal University now ranks 13th amongst all the Country’s University, described the University’s ranking as a product of working collectively with the entire staff to achieve the feat.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the University culture of holding inaugural lectures was absent with only two inaugural lectures in 10 years, but said under his leadership the University has held 8 inaugural lectures and two University lectures in one year.

Prof. Akinwunmi noted that upon assumption of office, 39 Programs runned by the University were not resourced and verified explained that under his Leadership all the courses have been resourced with all verified.

The Vice Chancellor said he refused to be distracted by the mischievous report at his person in some section of the social media, said it is a product of fear by those who are scared of the outstanding achievements made by University in just a year under his Leadership.

 

The Vice Chancellor assurred that he will continue to do more to change the narratives of the Federal University of Lokoja that he met said under his watch the University has a functional Printing Press, a Water making factory aimed at internally generated revenue.

With virtually nothing in the account of the University on assumption of office, appreciated the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission for his support at accreditation of courses run by the Institution.

Prof. Akinwunmi pointed out that with determination, the University would by the next academic session start a faculty of Medicine and Engineering.

The College of Medical sciences the Vice Chancellor explained will be located at the Adankolo campus of the Institution with admission commencing this year said the benefits to the state with 70% admission to indigenes, 10% on merit and 20% for educationally disadvantage areas would go a long way in boosting the manpower needs of the State.

He said he is already looking at the establishment of the department of Nursing as the next thing to introduce, said the institution is waiting for a resource verification team for the Engineering department.

While noting that he was also able to move the institution to its permanent site, said the movement to the permanent site as Challanged as it may seem, the advantages far outweighs the challenges with the ongoing infrastructure development.

The Vice said his experience as Deputy Vice Chancellor from The Nassarawa State University in Keffi enabled him to hit the ground running with the mentioned achievements, disclosed that he has gotten a N1b Support for the institution Senate building from TETFUND

While noting that he met a divided union on assumption of duty, expressed satisfaction that the institution now has a United Union, with earned allowances paid to the Union as at when due.

The Vice Chancellor listed Funding as a challenge of the Institution, promised to do more in the coming year to make the University an envy of all and one of the best in the world.
