Former Kogi Assembly Speaker Ahmed Umar Imam Announces Return to APC
Lokoja — Rt. Hon. Ahmed Umar Imam, former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, has formally announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a well‑attended gathering at his residence in GRA Lokoja.
The meeting, which brought together party executives at the local government and ward levels alongside key stakeholders, was used by Imam to declare the APC as his political home.
“The spirit of the party never left me; I remained in constant contact with members,” Imam said. “The APC is my political home, and I urge all members to close ranks and support the state and federal governments.”
Imam emphasized that his return is a significant boost for the party’s political development in Lokoja ahead of the 2026 political season, calling for unity of purpose among members.
He explained that he deliberately invited the executives to formally share his decision out of respect for the APC leadership structure.
“The APC remains central to the political stability and development of Kogi State and Nigeria,” he added, urging members to deepen internal cohesion as political activities gear up for 2027.
Imam also praised former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his leadership and expressed gratitude for his support over the years.
Looking ahead, Imam called on party members to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, stressing that sustained support for APC‑led governments is crucial for delivering democratic dividends. “As we move into 2026, politics has begun. This is the time for us to be united, focused, and supportive of our leaders,” he said.
Various speakers at the meeting highlighted the importance of Imam’s return to the ruling party and called for regular meetings ahead of the 2027 general election.
