Amb. Princess Aisha Okojie, a former Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial aspirant for the Edo 2024 election has lost her beloved mother, Mrs. Lucy Okojie.
Recall that sometimes a ago she equally lost her beloved father, Hon. Prince Albert Okojie. She said the double tragedy marks a deeply emotional and painful period for the Okojie family, as they mourn the loss of two figures who played vital roles in both their lives and the political history of Edo State.
Princess Okojie, widely known for her advocacy on political inclusivity, has consistently credited her late mother with being key inspiration in her decision to run for the office. “Mrs. Lucy Okojie was a steady source of encouragement, wisdom, and support, shaping her daughter’s education, professional path, and political journey.
“My mother had a big heart, and her belief in service, fairness, and justice was the cornerstone of everything I have striven to do in my life.
“She was not only my greatest supporter but also my best friend. We spent a lot of quality time together, and she always remained by my side. She taught me kindness, to fight for the voiceless, and to prioritize the people’s needs above personal gain. Her wisdom and counsel were invaluable, and she will be greatly missed.” Princes Okojie emphasized.
In 2023, Princess Okojie made headlines when she advocated for equity and inclusiveness, challenging the high costs of the Labour Party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, especially for women. Her advocacy for the protection of children, and persons with disabilities in the nation’s scheme of things is well documented.
While her advocacy led to a reduction in the form costs, she abstained from collecting the forms to send a powerful message to the party, preventing future marginalization and disenfranchisement of women. She viewed the party’s actions as a violation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding women’s inclusion in politics.
Princess Asha Okojie remains steadfast in her advocacy for policies that uplift marginalized communities, a passion deeply rooted in the values her late mother instilled in her. Mrs. Lucy Okojie’s empathy, kindness, and commitment to the service of others will forever be remembered as guiding influences in her daughter’s life and political career.
The Okojie family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all well-wishers for their love and support during their difficult times.
