Expert tasks Kogi Journalists to propagate issues of gender disparity at Stallion Times Training

 

The Media has been asked to bring to the front burner issues that would make the female gender participate in governance and political representation.

Theophilus Abbah, a Media expert, made the disclosure at a 1 Day Media Training On Human Rights and Social Inclusion organised by Stallion Times for the Media in Kogi State.

Mr. Abbah lamented the slides in gender representation and disparity since the advent of the current democracy, urged the media to be in the front burner in propagating issues that will change the sad narratives.

While Mr. Abbah highlighted the Levels of disparity as contained in the
National Gender Policy describing it as not palatable, the Media expert urged the Journalists to make conscious efforts in stories that would improve the differences in gender representation.

In a presentation titled: “Gender Equity in Nigeria Issues, Challenges and Prospects’, Gender Based Violence Reporting “, Mr. Abbah urged the media to concentrate their efforts on gender equity and social inclusion reporting.

He urged for the use of stories, features, opinion sampling, interviews amongst others to promote human rights, with gender equity, in governance and representation as a priority.

The media expert advocated episode, thematic, victim blame, ecological approach in GBV reporting, urge the media to follow up the stories to their logical conclusion.

The One Day Training is with funding by Mac Arthur Foundation, is organized to train 30 Journalists working in the Print, Broadcast and Online Medium in the State. The training is to enable Journalists have an understanding of collaborative media engagement for development, inclusion and accountability.
