EX-UNIBEN STUDENT LEADER, TOMA FORTUNE HAILS PROF. JULIUS IHONVBERE ON EMERGENCE AS REPS HOUSE LEADER


 

A former Student leader of the University of Benin Students Union Government has hailed the emergence of Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, the member representing Owan East/West federal constituency of Edo state, as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

 

The ex-student leader who is currently a policy and legislative Attorney at the National Assembly praised the decision of the House to pick Hon. Ihonvbere, a man of proven integrity, industry and unrivaled public service leadership capabilities, as it’s House Leader.

He recalled the numerous reforms the new reps leader brought to the basic education sector as Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education in the 9th Assembly, describing him as having brought “remarkable leadership and legislative dexterity in the affairs of the committee”

Toma also extolled the intellectual and academic acumen of the former Professor of African Politics, hailing his numerous academic achievements. In his words: “Prof is a virtuoso of politics, the man is a political egghead, there’s no doubt about that… this is a man who conquered the world as an academic of international repute, came into public service and proved himself a maven yet again… his portfolio is unmatched, his antecedents are there for all to see… who better to lead the House as Majority Leader than the iconic International Professor of African Politics himself?”

He however urged the new House Leader to continue to groom the youth community in the country as a teacher and mentor of leadership, politics and public service, so as to better prepare them to take over and better the country, being the leaders of tomorrow. He noted that he could do this by working with “young minds who can bring much needed innovation, industry, and creativity to the legislative business”

When asked what contributions the youths can bring to legislative business, the youth leader and policy enthusiast expressed his readiness to contribute his two cents by working with the new House Leader and the entire Reps and NASS Leadership in cultivating the right policy and legislative landscape necessary to bring the much needed change and development to the country.

The ex-law student leader wished him a successful run as Leader of the House, restating his confidence that under the new House Leader’s leadership, many bills and legislative instruments will be introduced and will see the light of day. He urged Hon. Ihonvbere to embody tactfulness, doggedness, and resilience in carrying out the new task assigned to him.
