Ex–Kogi SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Resigns, Joins APC
Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi, former Deputy Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, has resigned from the party, joins the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abenemi, who also served as Commissioner for Water Resources under former Governor Ibrahim Idris, submitted his resignation on November 13, 2025, citing “deep and personal reflection” on his political journey.
The maverick politician, emphasized that his exit was amicable and expressed gratitude to the SDP for the opportunity to serve, including during the 2023 governorship election.
After leaving the SDP, Abenemi confirmed his defection to the APC, attributing the move to contribute to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and the leadership of Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
He stated that his intention is to collaborate with all party levels to promote governance and economic progress, without aligning with any specific faction.
The defection is expected to bolster APC’s grassroots influence in Kogi, leveraging Abenemi’s longstanding support base. The formal reception is scheduled for Monday at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, where they will be received by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
