Ex. Dir. Idoko Foundation, Prince Onuche Isaac Zico, Decries Increase Rate of GBV In Society

Prince Onuche Isaac Zico, Executive Director of Idoko Foundation as well as Deputy State Coordinator AONN, Kogi State has decried the increasing rate of Gender Based Violence in the society, says the time for all hands to be on deck is now.

Prince Onuche made the disclosure at the sideline of a two day train the trainer workshop on sexual/gender base violence/Database Management system organized by the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Community Initiative to Promote Peace with support by Mercy Corps, held at the Children Amusement Park, Lokoja.

Prince Onuche lamented the worsening increase in GBV, however lamented that people are living with the syndrome without crying out and not knowing where to report such cases to.

He listed tradition and culture, stigmatization and lack of prosecution of persons engaged in the crime as reason why it looks as if GBV is a norm.

He urged victims to cry out, pointing out many people have died, some suffering in silence, all because they are hiding from crying out.

He described the training on how to report GBV as coming at a better time, explained that it would enable Data gathering and reporting, with a view to fighting the malaise.

The Executive Director assured that Idoko Foundation as well as AONN in Kogi State would use the knowledge learnt at the training to help stem the scourge of GBV in the State.
