A pressured group in kogi central senatorial district known as Kogi Central for Positive Change (KC4PC) has expressed displeasure over what it tagged as deliberate seization of power supply and exploitation of the Kogi Central populace by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
In a press release from the office of the group’s Chairman, Gen. Abdulazeez Anikoh rtd said, “Kogi Central has never experienced this poor and exploit of the people in the name of power supply in the area.
He added that” Okene and Kogi Central as a district is written in gold in our history books because it is the cradle of civilisation and business hub. So, it’s saddening that such an important place is battling with power supply. Since the emergence of AEDC, the power supply in the city has been extremely terrible and despite all these, residents still receive estimated bills for services not rendered.”
“Estimated billing is evil and part of corruption. So, it must be eradicated totally. This protest would drive home our request that something must be done in its fastest possible ways.”
He said the epileptic power supply is killing small businesses in the area. “it is a shame that a district like Kogi Central and especially ancient towns such as Okene, Adavi and Okehi are in darkness and businesses running on generators and some on shutdown.
He added that, the relationship of the community, the AEDC committee and that of AEDC stakeholders has become sour as AEDC never for once worked with the resolution of any gathering geared at restoring light in the community. The earlier agreed daily schedules (9am-3pm and 9pm-3am) is a scam as they always say they are having technical issues when it’s time to release light, but never had issue or attend to any issue in the interval where they took off light.
They only bring 12hours light as they prepare to share monthly bills, and return back to their 5-6hours once that is done. In some communities such as Nagazi, some parts of Okene and Okehi, it’s a total blackout and only manage to get light just a quarter of the month.”
The Chairman of the group further said, “it is on this note we shall be embarking on a 100 thousand massive protests, storming the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Okene business office, in our numbers to ask AEDC to ‘Stop charging us high’, ‘stop estimated billings’, ‘Stop the blackout’, ‘Give us stable power supply.
We shall also demand for the removal and redeployment of the Regional and Area managers if they are the milliepeds behind our predicaments. All security agencies, other pressure groups, market women, Okada Riders, etc shall be notified as the day shall be a work free day for the best of cooperation.
The massive outings shall be broadcasted using local and national news agency. The Chairman concluded.
