In its usual magnanimity to put smile on the faces of the down trodden, the Babatunde Irukera Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) of the Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, Barrister Babatunde Irukera on Monday distributed about 100 sewing machines to people in the three Senatorial Districts of Kogi State.
Also, about 10 tricycles popularly known as “Keke Napep” were distributed free of charge as a way of giving back to the society.
The beneficiaries who were delighted as a result of the surprise donation, said the gesture was timely and a relief to the hardship occasioned by the present economic hardship in the country.
One of the Beneficiaries, Edith Ojogbanne stated that “I am so overwhelmed, I am so grateful and I pray that God will replenish the pocket that this is coming from”
Ojogbanne noted that with the sewing machine giving to her, she will immediately enroll in a tailoring school as the item will enhance her learning.
On her part, Mrs. Alami Ojochenemi from Olamaboro Local Government Area described the donation as a seed that will stand the test of time and that cannot be easily forgotten.
Mrs. Ojochenemi who expressed appreciation to the Babatunde Irukera Foundation for giving her a sewing machine, prayed God to reward them handsomely.
“With this sewing machine you have given me today, I don’t know how to express my joy because I know how to do knitting. You know by the time you knit, you will need machine to join them together. This will reduce my stress and cost of production. She added.
Another beneficiary, Felicia Omolola from Mopa/ Amuro said ” It is only God that knows how joyful I am because of this machine, you know to buy a sewing machine now is very difficult and anyone that sow this at this difficult times has really tried.”
A tricycle beneficiary described Barrister Babatunde Irukera as God sent who has been empowering people from time to time.
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mr. Folami Onirinwa explained that the donation of the items was burn out of the passion of empower Kogi people at a time like this.
According to him, the empowerment Programme cut across the three Senatorial Districts of the State, saying the gesture is a way of giving people a means of livelihood.
“It just a follow-up to what we have been doing, you know the positive programme because l parative isn’t just food alone. It is just giving people a means of livelihood.”
He enjoined the beneficiaries to use the items to improve their living standards and society at large.
