Ekuzi day: Gov. Ododo Promises Democracy Dividends For People of Akpasu, Irenedu Wards of Kogi LGA

The people of Ekuzi in Akpasu and Irenedu Wards of Kogi local government area have been assured of dividends of democracy in the area.

 

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo gave the assurance in a message during the celebration of Ekuzi day organize by the Ekuzi development association EPA held in Okofi, Kogi local government area.

 

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals , Engineer Abubakar Bashir Gegu informed the people of Ekuzi communities of the Governor’s commitment to fulfill his electioneering campaign promises in the area.

He commended the Ohimege Igu of kotonkarfe in his efforts towards maintaining peace in his domain and called on the various ethnic groups in Ekuzi land to co- exist peacefully with one another.

The guest speaker, Professor Umar Musa Esikaku said Ekuzi people are predominantly fisher men, noting that the significance of the occasion was to create awareness and discuss development and advise all the Ekuzi settlement areas to adopt modern scientific farming and fishing methods.

In a remark, the Ohimege Igu of kotonkarfe, Dr Saidu Akawu Salihu commended EPA for such a remarkable event describing them as fore – runners and urged them to live peacefully among one another , noting that there can never be peace in the face of crisis and acrimony.

Earlier in his opening speech , the Akumagu of Ekuzi, Alhaji Salihu Adamu Ramat and founding member of the association described the occasion as historic, noting that the Ekuzi development association was formed in ninety eighty one with the aim of fostering unity and development in the area.

Similarly, the Ohinoyi of Okofi, Yunusa Haruna and his Edegaki counterpart , Isa Alhassan said the occasion which included presentation of Awards to deserving indegens of the area has brought the people together to show case their culture and tradition.

Highlights at the occasion includes presentation of Meritorious Awards to prominent and deserving individuals both within and outside Ekuzi communities and cultural display by the Egbura, Bassa and Ganagana ethnic groups from the area.

The former Minister of Internal affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Angulu during the first Republic, from Edegaki, A one time commissioner NEC, Alhaji Abu Egbunu from Okofi , Former house of Representative member, Alhaji Adamu Osuku were presented with posthumous award, among others .
