The campaign for equitable power rotation in Kogi State received a significant royal endorsement yesterday as the Kogi Unity Accord’s Power Rotation Advocacy Team paid a strategic visit to the Ejeh of Ankpa and Chairman of the Ankpa Area Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu II (Agaaagu).

The engagement formed part of the ongoing statewide consultations by the Kogi Unity Accord with traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders ahead of its proposed summit on equitable power rotation, political inclusion, peace and unity in Kogi State.

The delegation, led by the Convener of the Kogi Unity Accord, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi, proceeded to Ankpa after an earlier engagement in Ugwolawo, Ofu Local Government Area.

During the meeting, the Ejeh of Ankpa warmly received the delegation and commended the Kogi Unity Accord for what he described as a timely and important initiative capable of strengthening fairness, equity and peaceful coexistence among the people of Kogi State.

The revered monarch expressed support for the principle of power rotation, affirming that equitable access to political leadership remains essential to sustaining unity and mutual trust among the various communities and senatorial districts of the state.

He further assured the delegation that the Ankpa Area Traditional Council would participate in the proposed summit, describing the platform as an important opportunity for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue on the future of Kogi State.

The Ejeh also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace and unity as part of his responsibilities as a traditional ruler, while offering valuable advice and insightful contributions towards strengthening the objectives of the Kogi Unity Accord.

Speaking after the engagement, Convener of the Kogi Unity Accord, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi, described the Ejeh of Ankpa as a young, cerebral, intellectually mobile and cosmopolitan traditional ruler, whose wisdom and depth of understanding added immense value to the advocacy.

Adeyemi expressed profound appreciation to His Royal Highness for his humility, warm reception and constructive engagement, noting that the royal father’s contributions had further enriched the team’s strategy and renewed its confidence in achieving a broad-based consensus on power rotation.

The Convener also expressed appreciation to the Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area for his presence and meaningful contribution during the engagement. He commended the Chairman for acknowledging the leadership and performance of the Governor of Kogi State and for supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, development and unity.

According to Adeyemi, the growing support from traditional institutions and other stakeholders across Kogi State demonstrates that the conversation on equitable power rotation has become a matter deserving of sincere, responsible and inclusive dialogue.

He stressed that the proposed summit would provide a credible platform for stakeholders from across the state to come together, exchange ideas and develop a peaceful and equitable framework for political power-sharing.

The Ankpa engagement therefore represents another major step in the Kogi Unity Accord’s determination to build bridges, deepen understanding and promote a political culture founded on fairness, equity, inclusion and peaceful coexistence.

The Kogi Unity Accord appreciates the Ejeh of Ankpa, the Ankpa Area Traditional Council and the Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area for their hospitality, wisdom and support.
