Kogi State Commissioner for works and Housing Engr. Abubakar Ohere FNSE, called on Muslims to embrace the values of sacrifice, love and continue to foster unity as they join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In his Sallah message, Engr. Ohere said the period of the celebration was a clarion call for Muslim to imbibe the lessons of the season such as selfless service to God and humanity, sacrifice and sincere commitment to righteous conducts in their private and public life. He described Islam as a religion that upholds the spirit of love, peace and charity and preach harmonious living relationship with other religions adherents.
According to him, “Eid-el-Kabir teaches and reminds us of the meaning of sacrifice, love, and forbearance with God and in our relationships with one another. He enjoined Muslims to remember that the season is one to give thanks to the Almighty Allah “for sparing our lives as individuals and families to celebrate.”
Without a spirit of respect, the spirit of obedience would not work. Without the spirit of humility, neither spirit of respect nor obedience will work. And without the spirit of righteousness or godliness, one cannot be humble. These are essential components of sacrifice, Engr. Ohere said.”
He commended people for praying hard for the peace and tranquillity of Kogi state in particular
and the country in general. Saying that, “We are aware how patriotic our people were, and still are, in praying for the peaceful coexistence in our
state and corporate existence of our dear nation.”
The significance of the celebration today is
rooted in peaceful co-existence, mutual respect, and tolerance. “These are the virtues that we, as Nigerians, need to imbibe urged the people to uphold the spiritual benefit of the celebration by extending a hand of friendship and solidarity across all divides.”
He thanked the Muslim community in the state for the consistent support given to this administration led my His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello as he assured the good people of Kogi state that this administration would continue to partner with them to move the state forward.
