Edo guber poll: Governor Otu canvasses votes for APC candidate, Ekpebholo
The Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the Edo State governorship election, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, has told Edo People that it would be to their own interest to come out en masse on Saturday, September 21, 2024, to massively vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the APC.
Speaking at the grand finale of the party’s campaign held over the weekend in Benin, the Edo State capital, Governor Otu described Okpebholo as a humble and compassionate leader who understands quite clearly the problems bedevilling the people of the state, and as such, would know how to go about proffering the right solutions.
Maintaining that Okpebholo represents the change Edo people needs at this point in time, Governor Otu said the APC candidate has made significant impact on the lives of Edo people through the Monday Okpebholo Foundation which has offered scholarships, healthcare services and empowerment to many.
He assured the electorate that they will see more of Okpebholo’s kind gestures and a total transformation of the state if he is elected as the next governor of Edo State.
“The Okpebholo Foundation, has it not touched on education? Has it not touched on health? Has it not touched on empowerment? Has it discriminated against anybody? That is the mark of a true leader. Those are the kind of people we need to come on the throne. Because that means when he comes on board as Edo governor, he is going to replicate those good things for the entire citizens in the state and Edo will be a better place for all and sundry,” Otu avowed.
The Cross River helmsman added that “It is time for Edo to rise. It is only the man who knows the weight of your burden and problem that can actually solve it. Give us Senator Monday Okpebholo. He is your brother. He is a home boy and not an outsider. Make sure you come out and vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo to change the story of Edo State for the good of the people. There will be no regrets.”
Otu who had equally chaired the APC National Campaign Council for Imo governorship last year and ensured victory for the party, expressed confidence that the Edo guber APC candidate will emerge triumphant at the polls come Saturday.
He noted that Okpebholo is a straightforward and disciplined politician with high sense of decency and decorum, and has tremendous respect for elders, culture and traditional authority.
“In our land, culture is one of the most important thing that must be respected and at the same time must be promoted. At no time should we encourage disrespect of our royal fathers. In order to build a formidable state, there is need for respect for the authority and respect for elders. Okpebholo has pure Edo blood flowing in him and therefore fully understands the Edo culture which he will definitely preserve and promote. The Edo blood in Okpebholo is not adulterated, polluted or diluted. He will respect the Edo culture and traditional institutions,” the Cross River governor said.
All the speakers at the APC campaign grand finale including the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, the party’s national chairman and former governor of Kano State, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, Senator Adams Oshiomhole and a host of others believed the Okpebholo will deliver as Edo governor and bring succour to the people.
Other governors who were on ground to rally support for the Edo APC gubernatorial candidate included the governors of Lagos, Imo, Nasarawa, Ondo, Kwara, Jigawa, Ogun and Kogi. A number of erstwhile governors, past and present ministers, former and serving members of the National Assembly including the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio were also in attendance.
Okpebholo, a renowned business tycoon, entrepreneur and philanthropist, currently serving as the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, is acknowledged as the most accepted candidate by the people of Edo State with his endorsement by various notable individuals and groups made up of traditional rulers, women, youths and students.
