Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki have been commended for his continues support to move Edo University Iyamho to an enviable height as envisioned by the founding fathers.
The Vice Chancellor, Edo University Iyamho, Engr. Prof Emmanuel Aluyor made the commendation yesterday during the University”s 2nd convocation press briefing at the board room.
While welcoming guests at the event, Prof. Aluyor said that the university has become a household name within Nigeria and the global community adding that the university has an unwritten covenant with the good people of Edo state and other parents that their children”s education should not be unnecessary delayed as a result of industrial actions.
He said that Edo university Iyamho since inception has achieved milestones in its educational pursuits. “I must confess that in less than 5 years of existence, we have become a university of choice for both students and parents as well as a center for emulation by other universities within outside Nigeria.”
According to him, the university is not only turning the tide in Nigeria’s educational architecture but have effectively dispensing qualitative education without borders.
Prof. Aluyor further stated that it is remarkable and gratifying to note that at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic which birthed the new normal paradigm, the university taught students and successfully conducted examination online using the CANVAS Learning Management System saying that the forthcoming convocation could have been absolutely impossible if the technology was not deployed.
“We may not have seen tomorrow, but certainly, we know how to prepare for it. As a philosophy, we do not see challenges as obstacles, we believe that challenges are there to make us discover new ways of doing things that explain why the university kept her promise to students and parents that there will be no interruptions in our academic calendar.
The VC said that the minister of state for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has commended the university”s technological masterstroke which allows the students to access a comprehensive collection of course materials, ranging from course lecture notes, presentations slides, pictures, chats and illustrative diagrams etc which enhanced learning while at home.
The university”s VC however listed some of the achievements of the university since inception to include the university being adjudged best state university and 3rd Best universities NUC 2018 OER Ranking of Universities in Nigeria. The first university in Nigeria to own an Anatomage table. All programmes duely acredited, completion of 2019/2020 second semester lectures and examination via CANVAS LMS and the approval of over 100 scholarships each year to indigent students.
Prof. Aluyor also stated that the university has a sponsored prize of N 5, 000, 000: 00 award to the graduating students who had the best entrepreneurial business ideas, this will make them not only entrepreneur but will also make them employers of labour.
He therefore call on parents and guardians to key into the golden opportunity of educational revolution in the university to give their children and wards international standard education which has been brought to their door steps at lower cost.
