The Chief Medical Director of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, DUFUTH, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Prof. Uzoma Agwu has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to create jobs and improve workers’ welfare.
She made this known while speaking with newsmen after the post-inauguration thanksgiving of the governor, which took place at Saint Emmanuel Catholic Parish, in his hometown of Edukwachi, Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State.
Prof Agwu said: “I believe that Nwifuru is destined to be governor, and thank God that the former governor, David Umahi, handed over power to him. God made it possible that he (Nwifuru) will rise to be our leader at this time of need in the state.
“The welfare of civil servants should be looked into. The very first thing I want him (Nwifuru) to look into is the issue of civil servants and manpower. A lot of people have retired from the civil service, and they have not been replaced.
“The salaries of civil servants are nothing to write home about. He (Nwifuru) should look at it and see how to intervene because things are not getting better for them.”
She further urged the governor to work out how to enrol civil servants in a health insurance scheme to better their lives.
The immediate past special assistant to the former Governor of Ebonyi State on projects Mr Chijioke Nwuzor and the immediate past Coordinator of Ndufu Ikwo Development Center Mr Brutus Orogwu lauded the the past adminstration in Ebonyi State for given the State a face lift and urged Governor Francis Nwifuru to focus his adminstration on human capital development, education, security, among others.
On their part, the immediate Coordinator of Abakaliki Development Center Hon. Ekene Ede and the special assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Airport security Hon. Nnanna Nwangele expressed optmism that Governor Francis Nwifuru would deliver on his mandate going by his antecedents as a two time Speaker of the State House of Assembly while urging him to make peace paramount in his adminstration by reconciling some warring communities in the State.
Edeh also called on the State Governor Chief Francis Nwifuru to consolidate on the gains of democracy in the State. He stressed the need for him to improve on both primary and secondary health care, agriculture and construction of rural roads to help farmers transport their farm produce to the markets.
