Ebonyi govt begins free eye, hernia, fibroid surgical operations for civil servants

Ebonyi State government under the leadership of Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has flags off free eye, hernia and fibroid surgical operations for civil Servants in the State.

 

Speaking while flagging off the exercise in Abakaliki, the State head of service Dr. Rita Mary Okoro said the gesture was a significant milestone achievement by the present adminstration in the State and appreciated Governor Nwifuru for his topnotch, unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of civil and public servants in the State and while commending EBSHIA executive Secretary Dr. Divine Igwe and his team for working diligently towards ensuring that the Programme come to reality.

She expressed the readiness of the State Government to continue providing adequate health care services to both civil and public servants in the State and charged the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity as well as show more dedication to their duties, respect to service rules and eschew from corruption.

 

The Executive Secretary of Ebonyi State health insurance agency (EBSHIA) Dr. Divine Igwe said a total of 582 people were registered to participate in the programme.

The break down of the programme showed that over thirty nine persons would undergo hernia, sixteen to undergo fibroid whereas eighteen persons to undergo eye surgical operations even as 225 eye glasses were distributed to some of the civil servant with eye related problems.

According to Dr. Igwe, today we gathered to flag-off of the Onwa Healthcare medical and surgical outreach, made possible by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s who on the 7th November 2023 approved a free health insurance for all civil servants.

Since April 29th, 2024, civil servants and their families have accessed health services free of charge.

Today, we gather to flag off specialized care for 500 registered cases, including eye screenings, insurance of eye glasses, eye surgeries, fibroid, and hernia surgeries

I congratulate the beneficiaries and urge them to show appreciation to His Excellency for his unwavering support. Ebonyi State stands out as the only state where the Governor fully covers civil servants’ health insurance premiums.

This gesture demands dedication, diligence, and commitment to your duties.

When visiting hospitals, remember that all expenses, including investigations, medications, and services, have been fully paid for by the Governor through EBSHIA.

This initiative provides financial risk protection, reduces catastrophic medical expenditures, and ensures quality service delivery through renowned consultants involvement.

Ebonyi state health insurance is committed to offering affordable health care services to the people of Ebonyi State in line with the peoples charter of need mantra of Ebonyi state Government.

Some of the beneficiaries who gave testimonies of their successful surgical operations which was conducted in different hospitals in Abakaliki including Mr. Mathew Izuchukwu from Ishielu, Egwu Ehia Uguba Afikpo North, Uba Juliana Ivo Local Government Areas appreciated Governor Nwifuru for his timely interventions and prayed God to replenish him.

They added that everything about the surgeries were completely free.

Contributing, the chairman Nigeria Labour Congress in Ebonyi State Professor Ogugua Egwu and his TUC counterpart Comrade Chidi Igboji, described the intervention as very timely and called on workers in the State to avail themselves into the opportunity in own their best interest.
