The Coordinator of Ekumenyi Development Center Hon. Chika Joseph Nwibo has warned youths across the centre to desist from intake of Illicit drugs including India hemp, methamphetamine otherwise know as (mkpurummiri) and other narcotic drugs and engaged themselves meaningfully in their own betterment and the society at large.

The Coordinator gave the warning during a security meeting held at the Development Centre Secretariat Ndioke Okpuitumo in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

The Coordinator who decried the increase in consumption of hard drugs among youths in the area, gave a matching order to town union presidents, village heads and youth leaders of the two Communities in the Centre to sensitize their youths on the need to stop intake of such illicit drugs as it doesn’t add any value into their lives.

He warned that henceforth anybody caught smoking or selling any kind of illicit drugs in the centre would be apprehended and handed over to the men of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to serve as deterrent to others, saying that he would do everything within his powers to eradicate the menace in the centre.

According to the Coordinator, his adminstration has constructed covert at the entrance of the centre and has also stepped down electricity project at Okpuitumo Community among others and expressed the readiness of his adminstration to continue stepping down Governor Nwifuru’s charter of needs mantra to all the nooks and crannies of the Development Centre towards improving the lives of the rural populace.

He further disclosed his intention to tour round all the schools in the Centre towards Improving teaching and learning and charged students and pupils to always remain in their classes and learn during school hours instead of loitering about, noting that his office would constitute committee that would be moving across all the schools in the Centre and anybody caught would be severely dealt with.

He urged Stakeholders and indeed the good people of Ekumenyi Development Centre to be security conscience as security is everybody’s business and ensure peaceful coexistence and unity of purpose among one another and strive to sustain the already existing peace in all part of the Centre adding that no meaningful would thrive in the atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.

However, he applauded stakeholders of the Development centre especially the Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba for honoring the invitation irrespective of their busy schedule and charged workers in the Centre to be more dedicated to their official duties as the earring ones would be sanctioned accordingly.

On his part, the executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area Hon. Stephen Ebere Stephen Nwogba commended the Coordinator for his excellent performances within his short period of time in office especially for carrying everybody along and urged him to sustain the tempo.

The Council Chairman called on the people of the center to always promote peace in their various domain and shun any act capable of causing crisis and also to be law abiding citizens as well as give hundred percent support to the policies and programmes of the State Government led by Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to move the State forward.

The SSA to the Governor on rice mill Hon. Abel Uzodinma Nwozaka, while commending the Coordinator for his exemplary leadership, described peace as an engine and tool for development and called all and sundry to support the peace initiatives of Gov. Nwifuru’s led adminstration to take the State to the global map of development saying that security is everybody’s business.

The former deputy speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Fidelis Ogodo stressed the need for people of the Centre to desist from patronizing quack doctors and nurses but always visit Government recognized hospitals to avoid unwarranted problem in their lives

In their different submissions, the APC zonal youth leader Ebonyi North Comrade Chijioke Idenyi, principal big bird chambers and advocate for good leadership Barr. Sunday Ununu, former technical assistant to the Governor on judicial matters Hon. Charles Igboji, traditional ruler of Okpuitumo Community Eze Stephen Ukpa, general manager of EBOTRANS Dr. Simon Idenyi, supervisor for finance in Abakaliki Local Government Area Hon. John Mbam, former management committee member in the centre Hon. Kenneth Oganyi among others promised the Coordinator of their maximum support and cooperation for the success of his adminstration.

Mbam appealed to the Coordinator to grade Okpuitumo Community major road from where Abakaliki council chairman Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba stop down to the Eze’s palace to ease the means of livelihood of the people living in the area.

However, Hon Charles Igboji urged the Coordinator to set up committee that would be incharge that pupils and Students of the Development Centre are serious to their studies as to compete favorably with their colleagues outside the Development center.

 

The president of Okpuitumo Community youths general assembly Comrade Uchenna Okorie pledged to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that nobody sells nor smokes any form of hard drug in their Community.

Meanwhile, the NUlGE chairman of the Center Mr Nwophu Nwabueze said the workers are fortunate to have Hon. Nwibo as the DC Coordinator as the relationship among them has been cordially and assured that they would continue to be punctual in their official duties.
