Ebira Indigenous People of Lokoja Demand Fair Representation: Call for Elective Position in Upcoming Assembly Elections

Open Letter to Lokoja Local Government Stakeholders and Party Leaders

On behalf of the Ebira Indigenous People of Lokoja (EIPL), I, Comrade Ochesuru (aka Material) from Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, write this open letter to our esteemed party leaders and stakeholders.

Since the advent of democracy, the Ebira community in Lokoja has not been given the opportunity to hold elective office. In every election, we have mobilized our people—young and old—to vote for the most popular candidates for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and other key positions.

Since the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebira people in Lokoja have turned out in large numbers to deliver APC candidates in all INEC-conducted elections.

Yet, despite our unwavering support, we have not been carried along or given a fair share of political representation.

We, the entire Ebira youth of Lokoja Local Government, are appealing to party leaders and stakeholders to consider us for an elective position.

We seek a sense of belonging and a share in the dividends of democracy, as we have consistently contributed to the political, social, and economic development of Lokoja Local Government.

We acknowledge and appreciate the past and present APC administration for the appointments given to our people at both local and state levels. However, with another elective opportunity approaching—especially the House of Assembly seat for Lokoja 1 State Constituency—we hope our leaders will support us this time. We believe it is time for Ebira people to clinch the Assembly seat for Lokoja 1 Constituency, Insha Allah.

Our dynamic, energetic, young, and vibrant youth, Comrade Ibrahim Osite from Angwan Tiv Junction, New Layout in Ward A of Lokoja Local Government, is stepping forward to contest. We call on all our leaders and community members to rally behind him. Together, much can be achieved.

Signed:
Comrade Ochesuru (aka Material)
Ebira Indigenous People of Lokoja (EIPL)
