The Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office For Disability Affairs, Barr. Zacchaeus Dare Michael, has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to declare a State of emergency on the Kogi Flood, described the 2022 flood and destruction as unimaginable.
Barr. Dare while speaking with Newsmen in Lokoja, described the destruction done to lives and properties in the State as unimaginable in the State’s history, said the time for the federal government to intervene cannot be better than now.
While pointing out that from the destruction done to the State by the flood, it is obvious that the State cannot handle the monumental challenge, appealed to President Mohammadu Buhari to quickly convene a federal executive council meeting, with a view to helping to contain the humanitarian challenges the flood has posed Kogi State.
Barr. Dare described Kogi State as the epicenter of the flood destruction, appealed to President Mohammadu Buhari to direct all relevant agencies needed to help in rebuilding and assisting the state from the devastating flood, lamented that the evil flood has locked up the State.
While pointing out that the flood has washed away farmlands, properties, with report of some persons killed, lamented that roads have been washed away, causing untold hardship for the citizens and travellers, described the location of the State as too important for delayed action.
Barr. Dare praised Gov. Yahaya Bello for his efforts at mitigating the flood, commended the proactive steps the administration has taken in preventing worst situation that would have happen to lives and properties.
Barr. Dare noted that the magnitude of the flood was more than that of 2012, described the flood as a monumental disaster, called for the federal government urgent intervention.
