On this Democracy Day, June 12, 2026, I join every Nigerian in celebrating a date that carries both joy and responsibility.
Thirty-three years ago, the people of this country demonstrated extraordinary courage, they went to the polls, voted their conscience, and showed the world that Nigerians understand and cherish democratic governance.
The annulment of that mandate remains a wound in our collective memory, but the spirit it unleashed has never been extinguished.
“Democracy is not the day of the election. It is every day after — in the chamber, in the constituency, in the report rendered to the people.”
For the people of Kogi East Senatorial District, our nine local governments from Ankpa and Bassa in the north, to Idah and Ibaji along the Niger confluence, to Omala and Olamaboro in the south, June 12 is not merely a public holiday. It is a covenant renewed annually: a promise that leadership must be earned, exercised with integrity, and held accountable.
As I seek the privilege of representing Kogi East in the National Assembly on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), I commit myself to the values June 12 embodies. Credible representation means showing up not just on election day, but every sitting day of the Senate.
People-centred lawmaking means that bills sponsored in Abuja are shaped by townhalls held in Idah, Ankpa, Dekina and across our senatorial district. Service with integrity means that what I promise today can be verified tomorrow.
The African Democratic Congress was founded on the principle of inclusive, transparent and responsible leadership — the same values that made June 12 worth fighting for. The ADC handshake symbol is not merely a logo; it is the compact between a representative and the people who entrust him with their collective voice.
Today, I call on the people of Kogi East: honour the sacrifice of those who fought for democracy by participating in it fully. Register to vote. Encourage your neighbours. Engage the issues. Hold every candidate — including me — accountable to their stated commitments.
Democracy is strongest when the people are most informed and most engaged. Kogi East is ready. The choice is yours, and I am prepared to earn it.
