By joshua Cross River: Governor Otu Performs Ground-Breaking for Affordable Housing Estate in Ikom
The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu Affordable Housing Estate in Okuni, Ikom Local Government Area, as part of his administration’s drive to expand access to affordable housing and improve living standards across the state.
Representing the Governor at the ceremony on Saturday, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem said the housing project reflects the administration’s commitment to providing quality, affordable homes for Cross Riverians while promoting sustainable urban development.
Delivering the Governor’s message, Speaker Ayambem stated that the project is designed to address housing needs, stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities, and support the orderly growth of communities across the state.
He noted that the Otu administration remains focused on implementing practical programmes that directly improve the welfare of the people, adding that affordable housing is a critical component of inclusive development.
“The construction of this housing estate is another demonstration of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s commitment to improving the quality of life of Cross Riverians. Beyond providing decent homes, the project will generate economic opportunities and contribute to the overall development of our communities,” Ayambem said.
He urged residents and stakeholders to support the successful execution of the project, assuring them that the state government would continue to invest in initiatives that deliver lasting benefits to the people.
The affordable housing estate is part of the Cross River State Government’s broader efforts to bridge the housing deficit, enhance infrastructure, and promote sustainable development across the state.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba; the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Beatrice Igwe; the Commissioner for Power, Mr. Ekah Williams; alongside other government officials, stakeholders, and community leaders.
