COMMUNIQUÉ OF EGBE COUNCIL OF CHIEFS, REAFFIRMING ITS UNWAVERING SUPPORT FOR DISTINGUISHED SEN. SUNDAY KARIMI
The Egbe Council of Chiefs hereby issues this communiqué in response to recent developments involving certain individuals falsely claiming to act on behalf of Egbe.
The Council wishes to state clearly that it remains a peaceful and law-abiding body, not in any dispute or rift with the State Government. The Council also expresses its deep appreciation for the commitment of the Governor towards the development and well-being of Egbe and Yagba West at large.
Furthermore, the Council reaffirms its unwavering support for its distinguished son, Senator Sunday Karimi, whose representation continues to advance the interests of the people.
The Council notes with concern that certain individuals made false allegations against the Senator in the public domain and during a press conference. In response, the Senator, in good faith, demanded a retraction of the false claims and an unreserved apology. However, their refusal to do so necessitated legal action, as the Senator was compelled to protect his name and reputation as a distinguished public servant.
Notwithstanding, following several interventions by prominent Egbe indigenes, the matter was amicably resolved, and the case was withdrawn by the Senator before any court sitting.
It must also be stated that these individuals did not only make baseless allegations against the Senator, but have consistently acted in defiance of constituted authority and the peace of Egbe. Their actions have on several occasions been queried and reported to the State Government. As such, they are in no way worthy of representing the Egbe people or the Council of Chiefs in any form.
The Council emphasizes that those involved in these actions neither have its approval nor represent its position. Their conduct is a clear deviation from the values, customs, and traditions of Egbe and is hereby strongly condemned.
Accordingly, the Egbe Council of Chiefs formally dissociates itself from their actions, statements, and any unauthorized representations made in the name of Egbe.
The Council remains committed to unity, peace, and the preservation of the integrity of the community.
