The National Leadership of Ogodu Community Development Association (OCDA) has convened an Interactive Session today, being; 24th March, 2022 under the Chairmanship of Engr. Abuh Zekeri with a high turn-out of the people from all the nooks and crannies of the oldest district, where; the more than four (4) decades of political marginalisation and repression was decried as a topic of discussion aimed at justice to take it’s course in political re-engineering in order for the people of the district comprising of Ogodu, Ola and Ojaji to be reflected in the political sharing formula and zoning of all political offices as against the status quo where all political offices are callously and unjustifiably occupied by the people of Ife District alone.
Engr. Abuh Zekeri has added that the broad daylight political robbery and lack of transparency in sharing posts riddled with endemic political inequality has created abject poverty and massive unemployment for the indigenes of Ogodu district which stood firmly together in solidarity with Ife District while calling for the creation of Omala LGA. He also said the women and youth and others of the Ogodu district have over the years been denied of their political rights bordering on democratic contests and aspirations since Inception of democracy in Kogi state. Several efforts and measures have been made to improve situation, yet successive failures were recorded. The Larger society seems to be complex to penetrate but we felt that a leap from the home fronts and Ogodu families can be of good starting point hence the imports for this purposeful meeting by the leaderships of OCDA so as to collaboratively drive home our pains and regrets because we are first known as the people of Ogodu before the declaration of our political allegiance to all parties.
Another political stalwart and a highly respected son of Ogodu who was at the Interactive Session was the Chairman Of The Ogodu PDP’S ELDERS FORUM; Alhaji Hussaini Uloko who also lamented his heart wrenching regrets and disappointments over deliberate turning of Ogodu District to the lower limits of politicking, where we do not stand the chance of occupying the substantial political positions in Omala LG apart from the statutory councillorship position as our natural political rights. He urged such trend be discontinued so the inclusive political rights of our people can prevail for the sake of equity and justice.
**Attention* :
The political watchers arisen from the said interactive session have detected after the careful interpretations of political smoke screen that mass exodus of defection might hit the political base of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Ogodu district if the above submissions are handled with kid gloves. This intending defection is about forty-four (44) Years of marginalization of Ogodu district in Omala LGA since the creation of the Local Government.
The local government was created under Ife and Ogodu districts though later two other districts were created under Abejukolo Ife.
The people of Ogodu district have risen to take their own ‘destiny’ in their own hands to avoid history from repeating itself because given what is happening right now, it has become very clear that the same thing would happen again, because whenever any Ogodu Aspirant is about to participate or contest in all elections, the district will be politically persecuted or ostracized.
It is a clear fact in Omala LG that every elective position are all products of zoning.
Zoning is a tradition in Omala politics that is why we have been marginalized for over 44 Years. Now that it has come to the turn of Ogodu Zone, these self recruited enemies of the Ogodu District are at it again ready to thwart the zoning beneficial to Ogodu district after 44 years.
*Conclusion:*
The Participants at the Interactive Session concluded that Ogodu district is at critical moment in the history of her political existence as a people and as a district, critically urgent needs and in-depth multidimensional approaches are requested from all our leaders at party levels and otherwise in the overhauling our political system in order to positively change the political naratives for mutual benefits and peaceful co-existence of all our districts with special treatments to Ogodu district after four (4) decades of political marginalization and repression.
Hence, the Interactive Session calls for nothing less than a grand alliance of all persons and PDP Stakeholders of good will from Omala LGA in support of Aspirants from Ogodu District for justice and peace to reign Supreme.
*The time is now to take action.*
Peace is the only value that can promote holistic transformation and development of our local government and the state by extension.
Ogodu people have every right like her other counterparts elsewhere to vie for political offices and to be actively engaged in political activities. Societies can only appreciate the importance and benefits of the people of Ogodu district if they are given the space to maximize their untapped capacities and abilities. With a more concious and supportive polity, we can build a truly democratic, equal and inclusive society.
Therefore, the need for the rising of Ogodu Community Development Association advocacy for the people of the district for political Integration and Inclusion and we should be given the green light from 2023 electioneering year going forward for a true foundation of democracy to take place in our lands.
