Duro Jerry Omodara (Retired Commander, Nigerian Navy), is the State Security Adviser to Kogi State Government.

A commander that has large following. Omodara was appointed 1 June 2016, re‑appointed 29 Feb 2020, still on the saddle, providing security advise since his appointment again by the present administration of Gov. Ododo.

Born 8 August 1963, at Oke‑Offin, Kabba/Bunu LGA, Kogi State, Omodara attended LEA Primary School Oke‑Offin; Haliru Abdul Teacher’s College Birnin Kebbi, Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.
Omodara holds a BSc Political Science/Education (1999), from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Lagos State University, where he obtained a Diplomas in Law (1986), Basic Protocols (ISPD Brussels, 2013), National Security & Country Resilience (Galilee Institute, Israel).

Omodara was enlisted 1988 (Journalist, Nigerian Navy) and Commissioned Sub‑Lieutenant 1998. He served in ECOMOG (Liberia), Warri (Ijaw/Tsekiri war), various PR/Protocol roles (Naval HQ, NDC, Western Naval Command).

Retired as Commander, 26 Mar 2014. His outstanding contributions to protection of lives and properties has earned him several respected Awards and Honours.

Some of the awards includes: Icon of Diligence (Macedonia Ambassador Chaplain Corps, 2021)
– National Outstanding Leadership Award (NAPS, 2020)
– Most Media‑Friendly Appointee (Kogi Govt Press Corps, 2020)
– Excellence in Security (CRANE, 2021), among many others.

His security accomplishments as State Security Adviser has seen to the reduction of crime with drastic drop in kidnapping, banditry, and general insecurity in Kogi.

For example, the rescue of 10 kidnap victims (2025) and swift tracking of kidnappers after ABC Transport abduction, is another zenith for Omodara.

His Military/Strategic Model saw him Develope the “Omodara Security Model”, now referenced by other states and the Federal Government.

A very strong advocate of Community Policing, he Initiated collaboration with Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and 26 kidnappers arrested (2025).

Good at issuing public alerts and advocacy, saw Omodara warning landlords against renting to “Yahoo boys”, cautioned Senator Karimi against divisive statements, urged Okun youths to stop aiding bandits.

Omodara’s Community Development and Empowerment efforts has witnessed his interventions through Youth and Women Empowerment. He runs programs that places youths and women in vocational/entrepreneurial ventures.

Omodara has also partnered with Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition (KWEC) for “Building Trust for a Renewed Hope”.

Omodara’s Community accomplishments led him to serve as former National President, Oke‑Offin Development Association for 15 years
