COALITION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED POLITICIANS? IT’S TIME TO REBUILD THE PDP – PDP NORTHERN YOUTH LEADERS FORUM
The attention of the Forum of Northern PDP Local Government Youth Leaders, the Umbrella body of all People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth leaders across Northern Nigeria, has been drawn to the recent unveiling of a political coalition spearheaded by some aggrieved and displaced political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the sponsors of this so-called coalition seek to present it as a pathway to national salvation, we see it for what it truly is: a regrouping of the same aged, recycled politicians who have serially failed the Nigerian people and are once again attempting to exploit the goodwill of the electorate, particularly our youth, for their personal ambitions.
We are not fooled. Nigerian youths are not fooled. The Coalition of Internally Displaced Politicians (IDPs)—as they are rightly being described—represents everything that is wrong with our political evolution: opportunism without ideology, desperation without vision, and betrayal without remorse.
In the wake of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, we take a moment to reflect on Nigeria’s recent political history. While we send condolences to his family and supporters, we must also be honest about the damage wrought during his administration—an era that left the country more divided, more insecure, and more economically broken than ever before.
The decision to elect him in 2015—over the visionary and reform-minded President Goodluck Jonathan—remains one of the most painful chapters in Nigeria’s democratic journey. It is a mistake that must never be repeated, and we urge all Nigerians, especially the youth, to remember the cost of blind political gambling.
As PDP youth leaders, we remain steadfast and loyal to our great party—the People’s Democratic Party—the only party in Nigeria with a truly national structure, a coherent ideology, and a manifesto that puts power in the hands of the people.
We will not be swayed by cosmetic alliances driven by ambition and ego. We will not abandon our party for political merchants who jump from one platform to another like traders at a market square. We are committed to rebuilding the PDP, reinvigorating its structures, and positioning it as the true alternative in the 2027 general elections.
As we move toward our National Convention, we call on all PDP youths across the country to mobilize, organize, and prepare to defend our democracy with renewed vigor. Our mission is not centered on media noise or personal vendettas against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR—rather, we are focused on reviving the soul of our party and presenting credible solutions to Nigeria’s deep-seated problems.
We urge members of the newly announced coalition to present their vision, if they have any, instead of feeding the public with empty rants about unseating the President. Nigerians are tired of vague rhetoric. The youth are demanding clarity, accountability, and action.
To those who have chosen to leave the PDP to join this new venture, we wish you well, but rest assured: the PDP is not dead. We are rebuilding, stronger and better. We are the party of the people. We are the party with a history, with structure, and with the future on our side.
The time for playing politics with Nigeria’s future is over. It’s time to rebuild. It’s time to stand with the PDP.
