Failure of leadership has been identified as major problem militating against open governance partnership in Nigeria.
Monday Osasah, Executive Director, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, made the remarks while welcoming participants at a two day open Governorship Partnership Sensitization Workshop with Non State Actors in Kogi State on Open Government Partnership Principles held in Lokoja, described Leadership failure of leadership as militating against open and good governance.
Mr. Monday described OPG as the need to do things differently towards changing the narratives of poor Leadership and to transform governance, by empowering women to become change agents.
Mr. Monday described OGP as a way to go towards deepening anti corruption in Nigeria, by citizens looking into the budget, procurement processes to be in line with International best practices.
While noting that OGP helps brings the voice of citizens into governance, said it helps through the budget to reflect on citizens rights, said with OGP, it helps to transform the society in leadership, strategic and development.
The Executive Director disclosed that thus far 21 states including Kogi State in Nigeria have signed on to OGP, disclosed that OGP came into force in 2010, added that with its operating license, 1308 Persons have so far been trained on OGP on Supporting individuals and organizations with strategy, urged the Civil Society Organisations in the State to brace up to be catalyst of development.
In a presentation on Open Government Partnership, History Principles, Mode of Operation ( Action Plan- Development Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation), by Uchenna Arisukwu from the OGP Secretariat, disclosed that OGP is aimed at fighting corruption, promoting transparency and strengthening accountability.
Mr. Uchenna described OGP as a serious business, says it is about the people, collaborative decision making, added that it increases social Impact and improves good governance.
Mr. Uchenna added also that OGP is about accountability and citizens engagement, urged participants at to take the training with the seriousness it deserves for good governance.
He maintained that the purpose of the Civil Society in the OGP is summarily for co- creation, urged them to speak with one language by connecting for Impact, said the spirit is co-creation.
