BUILT ENVIRONMENT STAKEHOLDERS IN KOGI HAILS BUHARI FOR OPALUWA’S APPOINTMENT


 

Stakeholders in the Built Environment Industry in Kogi state has hailed President Muhammed Buhari for the appointment of Dr. (Bldr.) Samsom Opaluwa as Chairman of the Council of Registered Building of Nigeria, a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

 


The stakeholders said this appointment is well deserved and stressed that Opaluwa is a professional to the core whose commitment to the advancement of the practice of Building profession is unprecedented.

This revelation was made at a special dinner held to close the 2022 edition of the annual Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibition on Thursday in Lokoja.

The BEBM Exhibitions hosted The Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibitions in Lokoja, Kogi State from 6th and 8th December, 2022 with the theme, Building Smart Environment Using Made in Nigeria Building Materials at the Conference Arena of the Idrinana Hotels and Suites.

The exhibition created a platform for interactions hundreds of stakeholders in the built environment sector, investors, professionals and manufacturers of building/construction materials on new ideas in the build environment development. It was also used to showcase building materials and new construction technology.

Highlight of the closing ceremony was the unveiling of a new online platform, Building Materials Online Updates to promote conversation on Building Materials particularly the Made in Nigeria building products. In his speech during the unveiling, the Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Lokoja, Most Revd. Emmanuel Sokowamju Egbunu commended the organizers of the event for their creativity and advised that the internet facility must be used to glorify God and also serve humanity. He also prayed for the initiative.

The ceremony was used to recognised Dr. Opaluwa’s roles in the advancement of the Built Environment development practice by the presentation of the Built Environment Development Excellence Award to hime. He was represented by Builder Abu Obewa, a senior licensed Builder.
Presenting the Award to him, the Chairman of the Advisory Council of the BEBM Exhibitions, Chief Bola Fejukun, the Ba’alo of Oworo, Kingdom praised his contribution to the development of the built Enviroment
Opaluwa, who is currently the Chairman of Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) and was also Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja-based Khariz Group is a civil engineer and a professional builder who specialises in Project and Construction Management, Public Procurement and Facilities Engineering and Management.
Born on October 1, 1954 at Idah, Kogi State, Bldr. Opaluwah holds B.Sc. (Hons) in Building (First Class Honours/1978) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, M.Sc. Construction Engineering (1983) from Leeds University, Leeds, UK and a PhD in Facilities Management from St. Clements University, Turks and Caicos, Islands.
He also holds National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Kaduna Polytechnic) 1974 and Diploma in Refractory Technology (Refratechnique) Gottingen in Germany 1993 and the International Procurement Certificate (International Law Institute, Washington DC, USA) 2010.
