The Ijumu Anglican Diocese, Church of Nigeria in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State has Immortalized Mama Charity Malomo Irefin, Mother of General Olu Irefin, former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
The Gesture was in recognition of the contributions of the Irefin Matriach to the service of God and humanity while on earth.
Speaking in a message to the Foundation Laying of the Chapel at Saint Peters Anglican Church Ayetoro Gbede, the Bishop of Ijumu Diocese, Right Reverend Paul Ojo extolled the virtues of Late Mama Charity Irefin, saying her philanthropic gesture is still speaking after her death.
Right Reverend Ojo who was represented by Venerable Gabriel Akande said God wants the people to use their resources for His service and that of humanity.
He expressed appreciation to the wife, family, friends of Late General Olu Irefin and the people of Ayetoro Gbede for writing the name of Mama Irefin in gold and urged the people to emulate the virtues of the Late Nurse.
Also Speaking, a son of the deceased, Mr. Olayemi Irefin maintained that the renaming of the Chapel after their mother was the wish of his elder brother until his unfortunate demise in December 2020.
Mr. Irefin who appreciated that Church for the honour done the family said the Chapel would be completed before the end of the year.
“It is a welcome idea and we are following it with the Spirit of keeping my brother’s wish alive because this is one of the things he would have been willing to live for if he was alive. So we are doing it with the zeal that he is there and that is one of the ways I think we can represent his interest and we are happy about it. We appreciate the Church of Nigeria for the opportunity to to name the Chapel after her mother.”
A Community Leader in Ayetoro Gbede, Pastor Dayo Akanmode described the move as a welcome development, noting that it is a way of keeping the name of Irefin family in the front burner.
According to Prince Akanmode, Mama Irefin was an accomplished Nurse and a Community Leader, adding that the renaming of the Chapel after her was a an encouragement for people to always put in their best.
“For me, it is a welcome development. It is a way of keeping the name of Mama Charity Malomo Irefin in the front burner. She was an accomplished Nurse and a lover of the community (Ayetoro Gbede). It is an encouragement for the people to put in their best in all they do.”
