APWEN TO CONDUCT QUIZ COMPETETION IN KOGI COME 16th AUGUST, 2021.


 

The chairperson of the Association of Women Engineers of Nigeria Kogi State Chapter Engr Mrs Joan Oguche has disclosed that the Association is set to conduct inter School Competition in Kogi State.

 

Engr Joan Made this revelation in Lokoja today while addressing Press Men nothing that the essence of this Science Quiz competition amongst Girl-Child is to encourage their participation in Science subjects which will in turn boost their confidence to study Engineering Courses at the Tertiary level.

” what we are pursuing is to ensure we encourage Girl-child to pick up Science Subjects at the Secondary School Level with the intention of choosing Engineering as a career”

Engr Mrs Oguche further said that the fear of studying Science Subjects has reduced the number of women in Engineering Profession Nigeria relating that She will use her tenure as the current Chairperson of APWEN in Kogi State to stage Campaigns that will increase the interest of a girl-child in Engineering Profession in Nigeria.
“we have mapped out strategies such as going to schools to give Career talks to Girl-child, we have also created platforms with parents in various Schools in Kogi State where we can encourage them to convince their children and wards to develop interest in Science Subjects that could enable them go for Engineering Courses at the Highe Institution of Learning”

She finally appealed to all the parents and teachers of Schools like Crowder Memorial College, Bishop Delis Secondary School, Government Science Seondary Shcool, MuslimsCommuity Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School, Government Secondary School Serikin Numa and other public schools within Lokoja Metropolis to avail their girls for the Science Quiz competetion slated to hold in Lokoja at the NIWA Coference Hall on Monday 16th of August, 2021 adding that educational materials Such as Laptos, Science Books, Mathsets, Calculators and other science learning materials shall be distributed to students that perform well.
