APC plans big to win council polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) across the country remains a dominant party because of its ability to make consultations within the party structures and had always come up with the winning strategy in all elections.
At the moment some political parties in the country are engaged in intra-party squabble culminating in enmeshing the parties in court litigations. Democratically it is not healthy to engage in a prolonged intra party squabble as it has always tilted towards weakening the party structures and poor preparations for elections.
At the National level, the APC have continued to work hard in keeping the party structures intact. This is evident in the manner members of some of the opposition parties are defecting to its fold in droves.
The recent defection of political big weights especially some of the sitting governors in opposition parties could likely be a prelude to what Nigerians should expect in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
APC at all levels has continued to strategize for future elections. The party does not believe in noise making but underground strategies.
Sometimes back some political Analysts in the country began to fault the massive defection of politicians from their original parties to the ruling APC. Their school of taught is that such defection is capable of turning the country to a one party state. Their outcry notwithstanding the defection continued unabated. At a time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came up to state that he has over the years remained the champion of multi-party democracy and would never promote a one party system in the country. The President’s statement appeared to douse a lot of tension on the undercurrent of party defections in the country.
Today one thing that is clear is that the APC at the National and local levels have remained to be a dominant party in the country. This could be attributed to its hard work and ability to carry the party members in her scheme of things.
In Kogi State, Governor Ododo being the leader of the party in the state has been able to hold the party structures strongly through his servant leadership in the state. The leadership of the party in the state led by Muhammed Bello aka Dollar has maintained its dominance in the state due to its cohension at the wards and polling units levels. The state Chairman and his team have continued to work hard in ensuring the party’s strategy for winning all the elections in the state.
As the State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) recently rolled out its time table for the 2026 Kogi Council Polls, the leadership of the party in the state never hesitated in putting up strategies to win the polls. One of its strategy is the early sale of its nomination forms for Councillorship and Chairmanship aspirants. The party does not believe in fire brigade approach towards the conduct of any election in the state. Its early preparations has always positioned to win the polls in all the elections in the state.
Most importantly is Ododo’s performance in office. Strategically he has appointed Ward Special Assistants in all the two hundred and thirty nine wards in the state. These appointments has gone a very long way in entrenching the party at the grassroots level. The Ward Special Assistants are so close to the people and are in touch with the pulse of the people. Its ripple effect has continued to place the party strategically for winning elections at all times.
As it stands out today, APC is never a push over in politics of the state. The governor with the leadership of the party had continued to work as a formidable team in convincing the people of the state to remain in the party. This indeed is never a mean achievement.
Recently political heavy weights like former Governor Idris Wada, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) deputy governorship candidate, Hon Samuel Abenemi, three state Assembly members and many others defected to the ruling APC in the state. The development is an indication that the party is working well for the welfare of the people of the state.
There are already strong indication, that with the lack of strong opposition in the state the 2026 Council Polls will be a walk over for APC in the state.
It is worth to note here that the party’s recent sales of nomination forms and screening of aspirants for the 2026 council polls was conducted without hitches. Unlike in some states where such exercises has resulted in public uproar and litigations, Kogi APC has always worked as a team with a mission to win elections.
For the Councillorship and Chairmanship aspirants all they are waiting for is the primary elections. They have crossed the first hurdle to the council polls and there is peace in the state due to the matured manner the party has been conducting its affairs.
To gain the confidence of the people the party has shown elected Council office holders the back door. Again this is another strategy to satisfy the desires of the people in the conduct of the affairs of the party in the state.
In spite of the positive performance of APC in the state, there are indications that few parties might still field candidates for the 2026 Council Polls in the state. This of course is the beauty of democracy. By providing opportunity for a multi-party inclusion in the Council elections it opens the room for all intrested participants to take part in the election.
Over the years the dominant APC in the state has never muzzled other parties in the conduct of elections. It has however maintained its political streak in winning election for over fifteen years in the state.
If anything other political parties in other states of the federation have a lot to learn from Kogi APC. The party has always provided a level playing ground for its members to participate in all elections. This the more reason the party has dominated the political scene like a Colossus in the state.
Politics is sweet and very interesting when the game is played according to its rules. The people are always happy for it when the game is free and fair for all. This indeed is where Kogi APC is making the difference in Nigeria’s political firmament.
As the journey to the 2026 Kogi Council Polls began with the release of the time table of the elections, there is every hope for its peaceful conduct come October 2026. Politicians and the electorates alike are already looking forward to the processes which will lead to the conduct of the election.
Kogi State is a leading light in the conduct of Council Polls. As it is set to conduct the Council Polls back to back in 2026, the state will be the cynosure of grassroots politics in the country.
