Adopting Gov. Bello’s Model of Civil Service Reforms, Panacea For National Growth – Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade.


 

 

The Model adopted by Gov Yahaya Bello in the reform of the Kogi State Civil Service Reform has been described as a model if adopted that can enhance National Development.

Dr. (Mrs) Folashade Arike Ayoade, Secretary to Kogi State Government, made the call at day two of the ongoing first Annual GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Correspondents holding at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja,
while presenting a paper titled: ‘Impact of Civil Service Reform on national growth: Kogi State as Case Study’,

Dr. Ayoade, described the civil service as the engine of growth of any administration, disclosed that on assumption of office, Gov. Hello inherited a civil service that was bedevilled with decayed infrastructure and poor morale of workers.

She however maintained that following a painstaking civil service reforms, the state now has a clean payroll, said money saved from the staff audit has now been chanalled into the Employment of young people.

She added that Gov Bello’s administration has degitalized the payroll system, with the state now having a public service rule that is domesticated, while the implementation of a contributory pension scheme has commenced in the State.

The Secretary to the State Government added that the present administration has also succeeded in its Pension reforms, with the state internally generated revenue now jacked up from N350m to N1billion monthly, commended the efforts of the administration for the restructuring of the ministries, thus reducing cost of governance.

As part of the model employed that has made the present administration in the State to stand out, said the writing of examination for permanent secretaries, payment of salaries as and when due and improving infrastructure in the civil service, she added have helped in boosting the morale of the civil service.

She commended Gov Bello for his good example in the civil service reforms, disclosed that if the Kogi State model is employed in the country, it would help sustain the much desired National growth and development.
