Communique issued after a 2-day Media Master class for Journalists in Kogi and Nasarawa States organised by ActionAid Nigeria on the 17th and 18th of August 2021 at Kini Country-Inn Akwanga, Nasarawa State, with the theme; Passing the Baton: Co-creating Sustainable Peace through Journalism in pursuance of the System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE II) Project.
Following exhaustive training and active engagement, participants resolved that journalists and media professionals should:
1 Strive to be fair, equitable and just in their reportage
2 Endeavour to promote peace through their reportage
3 Hold government accountable to the citizens
4 Place national interest above personal interest in their reportage
5 Help build strong institutions through their reportage to promote good governance
6 Consciously create personal brands that can enhance their career
7 Continue to develop their skills to advance their career through branding
8 Maximize platforms for personal branding
9 Source for funding from donor agencies to fund their stories that can impact society
10 Familiarise themselves with the SDG goals to promote their career.
