A notable socio-political group in Kogi state, Yagba Action Group (YAG), has described the emergence of Hon Leke Abejide as the leader of the Kogi State Caucus members of the House of Representatives as a perfect choice devoid of bias and sentiments.
The organization, based in Kogi State, made this known in a congratulatory message to Hon Abejide, a member representing Yagba Federal Constituency on the platform of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Abejide who is the Chairman, House Committee on Customs and Excise on Tuesday, February 13th 2024 got the nod of members of the House of Representatives from Kogi State to lead the State’s Caucus made up of 9 members that cut across party lines. The decision was made by consensus.
In the congratulatory message by the group, signed by its General Coordinator, Engr Toba Adebayo Belushi, the group described Abejide as a man of vision and courage, who possesses sterling leadership qualities to steer a united and cohesive Caucus of the Honourable members from Kogi State.
The group showered praises on other members of the caucus for the confidence reposed in Abejide and expressed optimism that they will continue to cooperate and work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly, and the Executive arm of government both at the Federal and Kogi State levels for the economic growth and prosperity of country and state.
The statement reads: “The emergence of Rt Hon Leke Abejide as Leader of Kogi State Caucus in the 10th House of Representatives, where the ruling party heldsway in terms of number, does not come to us in absolute surprise but serves as a reassurance that Abejide is born with natural leadership abilities and a testament to the fact that these qualities have not gone without notice among his peers of equally endowed and qualified members in the Kogi State Reps Caucus.
“Coming to the 9th National Assembly, Rt Hon Leke Abejide was something of an orphan. Until 2023 elections, he was the singular, sole and the only member of his party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the entire parliament. But recognition came quickly for him. Following the inauguration of the House in June 2019, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Committee on Customs and Excise. In March 2021, he was upgraded and confirmed the Chairman. Such acclamation as a greenhorn in the parliament, and a non-member of the ruling party, is a rarity.
