
Abakaliki South Constituency Team Emerges Champion Of FON Unity Cup Tournament

The team of Abakaliki South Constituency has defeated their counterpart of Izzi West Constituency, lifting the trophy of Ebonyi North zone unity cup football competition through penalty shootout at Pa- Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
The football tournament organized by the FON Youths Movement under the Leadership of it’s National President and SSA to the Governor on Youths Mobilization, Comrade Chinedu Emerike and sponsored by a renowned business mogul and philanthropist, Chief Ojimba Chikodili Ojimba, featured teams drawn from the four local government areas in Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone including Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu.
The event attracted a large crowd of sports lovers and dignitaries, serving as a unifying platform for stakeholders and youths across the senatorial zone.
While presenting the cup to the winners, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru ably represented by the Commissioner for youths and sports development, Hon. Richard Idike commended the sponsor of the football competition Chief Chikodili Ojimba for his generosity and uncommon commitment to youth development and unity in the state.
He noted that the competition had not only showcased young football talents but had also strengthened the bond among communities in Ebonyi North.
He added that his administration would continue to prioritize sports development in the State.
In his remarks, Chief Chikodili Ojimba reaffirmed his continued support for the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. He emphasized that his sponsorship of the unity cup was driven by a desire to foster love, tolerance and mutual respect among youths in the senatorial zone. He encouraged young people to remain focused, work hard and harness their talents for personal and societal development.
Chief Ojimba further congratulated the winning team and all participants for their sportsmanship and promised to sponsor a statewide football competition that would accommodate all the local government areas in the next edition of the tournament.
