Abakaliki LG Flood Disaster Victims Receive NEMA, SEMA Relief Materials In Ebonyi

The people of Abakaliki Local Government Area in Ebonyi State who were affected by flood, fire and other natural disasters have received relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to cushion the effect of the disasters.
Addressing the people shortly before commencing the distribution of the relief materials at the Council Headquarters, Nkaliki, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for human capital development and monitoring who doubles as the acting Executive Secretary of (SEMA) Mrs Ann Aligwe said the distribution of the relief materials became imperative as it would go along way in alleviating the sufferings of the disaster victims.
The Commissioner who commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State for his peoples oriented leadership as well as his giant efforts in attracting the relief materials for the disaster victims, also lauded the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for coming to the aid of Ebonyi people who were affected by the disasters, describing the development as very apt.
The Commissioner while empathizing with the disaster victims, encouraged them to remain supportive of the present administration for the realization of the people’s charter of needs manifesto of the State Governor Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, adding that the state government would soon distribute the palliatives meant to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
She expressed the burning desire of Governor Nwifuru to deliver democracy dividends to all the nooks and crannies of the State and charged the beneficiaries to maintain decorum and shun any form of misconduct to ensure smooth distribution of the materials.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Hon. Ebere Nwogba commended the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for providing relief materials worth millions of naira aimed at ameliorating the sufferings of the disaster victims in the Council.
He described the federal government’s kind gesture as a worthwhile intervention in assisting the state and the local government’s efforts to reduce the burden of the less privileged, especially the local farmers at the rural setting, whose farm produce and other valuable properties were grossly damaged by the flood due to the heavy downpour in 2022.
The Council Chairman further appreciated the state government through the honourable commissioner for human capital development, Hon. Mrs. Ann Aligwe whose office was used by the federal government to reach the intended beneficiaries, while admonishing the victims to maintain decorum in their quest to get the items.
The Council boss who observed that erection of structures and dumping of refuse on waterways as the major causes of flood mostly in urban areas advised such metropolitans to desist from all forms of environmental degradation capable of causing flood in the society.
The representative of NEMA, Mr. Kadir Olarewaju noted that the federal government released the items in response to the complaints of economic hardship faced by the people who were affected by the flood disaster and encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure proper use of the items, adding that the government would not relent in responding to the people.
Some of the beneficiaries including Mrs Nkechi Mbam, Mrs Ogechi Nwamini among others thanked the benefactors for the initiative and solicited for more relief materials to reduce their untold hardship as a result of the disasters.
Some of the items distributed includes, bags of beans, bags of rice, foams, grinding machines, sowing machines, mattresses among others.
